Gilles Deleuze
Gherasim Luca (1913 Bucarest - 1994 Paris) est un poète et artiste d'origine roumaine dont la majeure partie de l'œuvre a été publiée et écrite en français. Considéré comme l'un des fondateurs du surréalisme roumain, dans une atmosphère d'avant-garde menée par Tristan Tzara, Constantin Brancusi ou Victor Brauner. Apatride installé en France en 1952, il y développe une œuvre singulière et protéiforme.
Figure d'écrivain hors pair, qualifié par Gilles Deleuze de « plus grand poète de langue française », Gherasim Luca est le « héros-limite » de l'inventivité du langage et de l'image, « cubomane » inspiré traversant et sondant les pratiques poétiques, photographiques, du dessin, du collage et des livres-objet, inventeur de l'« ontophonie » comme nouveau régime du langage poétique et de ses possibilités d'expression phonatoire et visuelle.
Explorateur d'une position philosophique « non-œdipienne », Luca revalorise après la Seconde Guerre mondiale la dimension surréelle de l'art et de la vie à travers des opérations déconcertantes de collage, montage, détournement et humour noir, autant de procédés surréalistes suscitant le merveilleux et l'inquiétant.
La cubomanie, série principale de l'œuvre visuelle de Luca qui « rend le connu méconnaissable », est une forme de collage fabriquée à partir de photos ou d'illustrations diverses, mais surtout de reproductions de tableaux, découpées en carrés d'égales dimensions. Ces carrés sont ensuite collés côte à côte de manière aléatoire afin de former une nouvelle image.
Pour réaliser ses Cubomanies, Gherasim Luca fait appel à l'art des XVème, XVIème, XVIIème et XIXème siècles, avec une nette préférence pour les deux premiers : les deux tiers des Cubomanies ont pour source un tableau de l'un de ces deux siècles. Amalgame d'étoffes et de membres, poétique du bégaiement, chaos de la représentation, fenêtre sur le monde ; les Cubomanies font résonner la vibration sourde de l'inquiétante étrangeté, un Tonnerre Confidentiel.

Gherasim Luca (1913 Bucharest - 1994 Paris) was a poet and artist of Romanian origin, most of whose work was published and written in French. Considered one of the founders of Romanian surrealism, in an avant-garde atmosphere led by Tristan Tzara, Constantin Brancusi and Victor Brauner. He settled in France in 1952 and developed a singular and protean body of work.
An outstanding writer, described by Gilles Deleuze as "the greatest poet in the French language", Gherasim Luca is the "limit-hero" of the inventiveness of language and image, an inspired "cubomaniac" who traverses and probes the practices of poetry, photography, drawing, collage and book-objects, the inventor of "ontophony" as a new regime of poetic language and its possibilities of phonatory and visual expression.
After the Second World War, Luca explored a "non-œdipian" philosophical position and revalued the surreal dimension of art and life through the disconcerting operations of collage, montage, misappropriation and black humour, all surrealist procedures that evoke the marvellous and the disquieting.
« Cubomanie », the main series of Luca's visual work, which "makes the known unrecognisable", is a form of collage made from various photos and illustrations, but, above all, reproductions of paintings, cut into squares of equal dimensions. These squares are then glued together randomly to form a new image.
To create his Cubomanies, Gherasim Luca uses art from the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, with a clear preference for the first two: two-thirds of the Cubomanies are based on a painting from one of these two centuries. An amalgam of fabrics and limbs, the poetics of stammering, the chaos of representation, a window on the world: the Cubomanies resonate with the dull vibration of the disquietingly strange, a Confidential Thunderbolt.
